Meet Your Rego Park Orthodontist
Dr. Isaak Yelizar
Moving to the United States as a child, Dr. Isaak felt self-conscious about his oral health and appearance. His ability to access quality dental care was impossible in his former country; however, once he met with a caring and compassionate orthodontist at 13 years old, he began to witness the positive changes occurring inside his mouth.
More confident than ever before, his psychological and physical appearance began to improve, so he also changed his social behaviors.
By the time he reached the end of high school, he was so impressed by what orthodontic treatment had done for him that he knew he wanted to make it his future career.
After graduating from the New York University College of Dentistry with high honors, he served as a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He completed a general practice residency at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, - a place where he fell in love with orthodontics. He eventually pursued an orthodontic residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx.
As a board-certified orthodontist, he completed many different advanced written and oral examinations and his cases before a panel of experts from the American Board of Orthodontics.
Hear from Patients
Simpli the best! Feeling blessed to have met Dr Yelizar. I got braces 3 times (span of 25 years), Dr Yelizar is my 4th ortho and he finally fixed my issue. He is a problem solver, perfectionist, and extremely passionate about his work. Followed Dr Yelizar on Instagram for 2 years and thought he was in Connecticut. After 2 years, I checked again hoping he relocated to New York City. To my surprise, he was always in Forest Hills. So I am very glad he is now my orthodontist. I highly recommend Dr Yelizar!

Frequently Asked Questions About Orthodontic Treatment in Rego Park
If you're searching for an orthodontist in Rego Park, you probably have a few questions before scheduling your first visit. Below are answers to some of the questions we hear most often from patients and families in the area. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please contact our team and we’ll be happy to help.
When Should I See an Orthodontist for the First Time?
A good rule of thumb is to schedule your child’s first orthodontic checkup around age 7. That doesn’t mean braces are needed that early — it just allows an orthodontist to spot jaw growth concerns, crowding, crossbites, or bite issues while options are simpler.
Do I Need Braces or Clear Aligners?
Both braces and clear aligners can straighten teeth, but the best option depends on your bite, tooth movement needed, and lifestyle. Aligners are popular for aesthetics and removability, while braces can be better for more complex corrections or highly precise movements.
During your consultation, we’ll recommend the best-fit option based on your exam and goals — not a one-size-fits-all plan.
How Long Does Orthodontic Treatment Usually Take?
Treatment time depends on spacing/crowding, bite alignment, and how consistently you follow instructions (like wearing aligners as directed). Many patients finish in about 12–24 months, but simpler cases can be shorter and more complex cases can take longer.
How Much Do Braces or Clear Aligners Cost in Queens?
Orthodontic costs vary based on the type of treatment and case complexity. The best way to get an accurate estimate is an exam, because pricing is tied to how much movement and bite correction is needed — not just the appliance you choose.
We’ll review costs clearly during your visit, including what insurance may cover and what monthly payment options are available.
What’s the Difference Between an Orthodontist and a Dentist for Braces?
Dentists complete dental school, while orthodontists complete additional specialty training focused on tooth movement, jaw development, and bite correction. If you have crowding, spacing, or a bite issue (overbite/underbite/crossbite), an orthodontist is specifically trained for that type of diagnosis and planning.
Can Orthodontic Treatment Fix Bite Problems Like Overbite or Underbite?
Yes — orthodontic treatment is designed to improve both tooth alignment and bite function. Overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites can affect chewing comfort, tooth wear, and sometimes jaw strain. The right plan can help guide teeth into a healthier relationship.
Will Braces or Aligners Change My Face Shape?
Orthodontics can change your smile and how teeth support your lips, but “face shape changes” depend on your starting bite and growth. In some cases — especially with significant bite correction — the result can improve facial balance. We’ll explain what’s realistic for your case during your exam.
What Should I Do If a Bracket Breaks or a Wire Pokes?
Call our office so we can guide you on the next step and schedule a repair if needed. In many cases, you can use orthodontic wax to reduce irritation until we see you. If something feels sharp, painful, or loose, it’s better to address it quickly so treatment stays on track.
How Can I Avoid Orthodontic Emergencies During Treatment?
Most emergencies are preventable. Avoid hard or sticky foods, wear a mouthguard if you play sports, and keep up with cleaning around brackets or aligners. If you feel something loosening or rubbing, call early — quick fixes prevent bigger problems.
How Do I Know If My Child Needs Braces?
Common signs include crowding, early or late loss of baby teeth, mouth breathing, difficulty biting/chewing, protruding front teeth, or a noticeable bite issue. A quick orthodontic evaluation can clarify what’s going on and whether early guidance would help.
